Welcome to the Harrogate Deanery website

The Deanery exists to support and encourage the Christian life and witness of the Anglican churches within its boundary. It does this informally, through networks and friendships, and more formally through Synod and Chapter. The Deanery plays a part in determining the apportionment of Diocesan Share between our parishes.

Harrogate Deanery PictureThe Deanery has three main centres of population, Harrogate itself and the smaller (though more ancient) towns of Knaresborough and Wetherby. Beyond these communities lie mainly rural parishes. The northern part of the Deanery contains most of Nidderdale.

Harrogate and Knaresborough are popular tourist centres and Harrogate's conference business brings many visitors to the town. In the southern part of the Deanery, the River Wharfe runs between Pool and Wetherby, which for some of its length marks the boundary between West and North Yorkshire.
