Welcome to the Harrogate Deanery website |
|
The Deanery exists to support and encourage the Christian life and witness of the Anglican churches within its boundary. It does this informally, through networks and friendships, and more formally through Synod and Chapter. The deanery plays a part in determining the apportionment of Diocesan Share between our parishes. The deanery has three main centres of population, Harrogate itself and the smaller (though more ancient) towns of Knaresborough and Wetherby. Beyond these communities lie mainly rural parishes. The northern part of the Deanery contains most of Nidderdale.
Harrogate and Knaresborough are popular tourist centres and Harrogate's conference business brings many visitors to the town. In the southern part of the Deanery, the River Wharfe runs between Pool and Wetherby, which for some of its length marks the boundary between West and North Yorkshire. Deanery Profile

Launch of New Deanery Website |
|
The new Harrogate Deanery website has been launched and is now set up to be easily updated by members of the Deanery. Written using an open source system called Joomla, the new website which will allow 'non-technical' members of the deanery to update the website using tools very similar to standard word processing software. The new website project has been facilitated by members of the 'WebTeam' at St Aidan's Church of England High School in Harrogate, which is a group of year 12 students working with the Head of ICT at the school. The project has involved a review of the previous site, including issues of graphic design, information flow and technical design and setup.
Working for the Deanery members, the St Aidan's WebTeam has installed the Joomla content management system, created an appropriate style template and pre-populated the website with content. Work in progress involves the generation of user guides for updating the website, although this may have to wait until after exams!! |
